The completion of the 2025 National Online Application System (NOAS) has seen 23,428 students selected to begin tertiary studies across Papua New Guinea in the 2026 academic year, Higher Education Minister Kinoka Feo has confirmed.

Minister Feo said the outcome reflects years of hard work by students and careful administration by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. He thanked DHERST officers for coordinating the process and acknowledged students and parents who anxiously awaited the results.

According to official figures, 35,012 applicants were screened nationwide, made up of 32,401 Grade 12 school leavers and 2,611 non-school leavers, underscoring the strong demand for limited university and college placements.

From the applicant pool, DHERST allocated 15,688 places for school leavers and 7,740 places for non-school leavers, filling all available spaces for the 2026 intake.

The Minister reiterated that selections were based purely on merit, saying the online system has removed room for favoritism and ensured a fair and transparent process.

He added that the government, through DHERST, continues to increase student quotas annually to support national human resource development and skills growth.

Minister Feo also expressed appreciation to the Australia Awards Scholarships program for supporting DHERST through in-country scholarship initiatives.

The official selection list is expected to be released within the week.
