PNG Leader Offers Support to Australia After Sydney Attack
Prime Minister James Marape has expressed Papua New Guinea’s condolences to Australia following a deadly attack at a busy shopping centre in Sydney that left six people dead and several others injured.
The attack occurred at the Bondi Junction shopping complex on Saturday afternoon when two attackers moved through the centre, stabbing shoppers before being shot dead by police.
Australian authorities confirmed that five women and one man lost their lives in the incident, while a number of others, including a baby, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The sudden violence triggered panic as shoppers fled the area, with emergency services quickly sealing off the centre and launching a major security operation.
Prime Minister Marape said PNG shared Australia’s grief and acknowledged the shock felt across the region following the attack in one of Sydney’s busiest public spaces.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones and with all those affected by this tragic event,” he said.
