PNG Miss Bird of Paradise Attends Inclusive Learning Academy Graduation
Papua New Guinea’s newly crowned Miss Bird of Paradise, Iampela Popena, made her first official appearance at the Academy of Inclusive Learning’s third graduation ceremony, where she joined families and students to celebrate their achievements.
The event marked a special moment for the academy, which has grown from a small tutoring service founded in 2006 into a fully developed learning institution supporting children of all abilities. Popena said she was honoured to witness the occasion alongside parents, teachers and guests.

The Academy of Inclusive Learning, rebranded in 2023, provides coaching for Grades 3 to 12, homeschool support, FODE, and early learning programs using the PNG curriculum. The school also offers a specialised program for students with learning disabilities using a US-based curriculum, aligned with its motto: “Nurturing an individual’s learning ability/disability is our Passion.”
Popena was welcomed warmly on arrival and joined guests in watching three student performances. She said the confidence shown by the young performers was encouraging and deserved recognition.
Speaking after the presentation of awards, she reminded students and families that inclusion requires action and commitment. “Inclusivity isn’t just a word, it's a promise to see each other, to lift each other, and to create spaces where everyone belongs,” she said.
The ceremony ended with a group photoshoot involving graduates, teachers, parents and invited guests. “I ended by congratulating them and wished them all the best in their educational journey,” she said.
