PNG's Air Niugini tells Christmas travellers not to arrive too early
PNG national airline Air Niugini has advised passengers travelling during the Christmas rush not to turn up at airports more than three hours before their scheduled departure to avoid overcrowding at terminals.
The airline issued the reminder following concerns raised about long queues forming outside the Port Moresby Domestic Terminal during peak travel hours.

Officer in Charge Captain Samiu Taufa said check-in counters only open three hours before departure, and security restrictions prevent early arrivals from entering the terminal before that time.
He explained that passengers who arrive too early have no choice but to wait outside while travellers on earlier flights are processed and cleared for boarding.
“Normally we encourage passengers to come early, but Christmas is different,” Captain Taufa said. “Passenger numbers are about fifty per cent higher than usual and there is limited space inside the terminal.”
He said only passengers whose flights have opened for check-in are allowed inside, adding that arriving earlier does not result in faster processing. “If you come several hours ahead of time, you will still wait until your flight is called.”
