More Evictions Planned in PNG's Capital Port Moresby This Year, Police Say
The residents in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby have been warned to prepare for eviction exercises across the city this year, with several high-profile locations identified. The National Capital District (NCD) Police confirmed that landowners and property owners will carry out the evictions, with police providing support to ensure the process is orderly.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for NCD and Central Provinces, Benjamin Turi, said the police had received official notifications about the eviction exercises. “Some of the areas include Hohola, Suksuk Tyres Service down to Pitstop, Mobil Service Station, part of Garden Hills, and Six Mile near Saraga Market. These are pending National Court orders, and residents are advised to be prepared to move,” he said.
ACP Turi added that police will act on verified legal documents presented by landowners. “Talai and Gorobe are next, where a new road link connecting Burns Peak to Koki Market will be built. Police are working closely with all agencies to ensure the eviction exercises are completed successfully,” he said.
He further reported that the Two Mile Hill eviction is progressing well, and Four Mile Works compound is the next location where residents will be relocated. Awareness sessions were conducted earlier this morning.
ACP Turi also warned that other illegal settlements along drains and in unauthorized areas will be removed once the NCDC gives approval. “The NCDC is the authority on these matters, and we will support their directives,” he said.
