OFC PRO League : Solomon Kings End Auckland FC’s Unbeaten Run in Port Moresby

Solomon Kings FC produced a composed and ruthless performance in the Port Moresby heat on Saturday, defeating OFC Pro League leaders Auckland FC 3-1 at the Santos National Football Stadium to snap the visitors’ unbeaten run.

What was expected to be a tight tactical contest quickly tilted in favour of the Kings, who handled the humid conditions far better than their New Zealand opponents. Auckland appeared off the pace early, while the Kings moved the ball sharply and with confidence.

Midfielder Sota Higashide was at the heart of the Kings’ dominance, combining well with Junior David to stretch Auckland’s defence. Goalkeeper Blake Callinan was forced into several sharp saves during the opening exchanges to keep his side level.

The breakthrough arrived when Higashide’s flicked pass inside the box struck the hand of defender Daniel Normann. Referee David Yareboinen pointed to the spot, and Higashide calmly chipped the penalty straight down the middle.

The Kings doubled their advantage just before the break. Higashide again created the opening, slipping into space before squaring a low ball for Bobby Leslie, who beat his marker to finish from close range.

Auckland attempted to respond after halftime with changes from the bench, but the Kings remained in control. The third goal came shortly after the restart when Higashide floated a measured pass over the defence, allowing Jez Lofthouse to control and finish neatly past Callinan.

Auckland managed a late consolation through Liam Gillion, set up by Emiliano Tade, with VAR overturning an initial offside decision. Despite the loss, Auckland FC stays top of the table, while the win lifts Solomon Kings FC into third place, level on points with South Melbourne FC.
