PNGDF Deploys New Bell 412 Helicopter to Boost Operations
Papua New Guinea’s Defence Force has begun flying a newly acquired Bell 412 helicopter, strengthening its ability to operate across the country’s challenging terrains.
The aircraft is expected to play a key role in both training and frontline duties, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas where air support is essential for mobility and response.

Defence officials say helicopters remain central to humanitarian and security missions, including the delivery of relief supplies and the rapid movement of personnel during emergencies.
In late 2025, rotary wing support enabled the delivery of 24 tonnes of essential goods to communities in Gulf Province, while similar aircraft have been used to transport PNGDF personnel from isolated locations such as Weam and Tabubil to reinforce border protection efforts.
The Australian Defence Force has been working closely with the PNGDF to support the operation and sustainment of the helicopter capability, reinforcing long-standing defence cooperation between the two countries.
“The Australian Defence Force are proud to support the PNGDF though this critical rotary wing function, working side by side and step by step to maintain the strong partnership between PNG and Australia,” the Australian High Commission said.
