PNG Police Officers Get New Homes at Kimininga Barracks, Mt Hagen

Police officers in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands now have modern accommodation after the official opening of Kimininga Barracks in Mt Hagen. The facility offers separate quarters for male and female officers, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of RPNGC personnel.

The 26-room male single quarters can house 50 officers, while the 8-room female quarters are designed for 15 officers. Commissioner David Manning officiated the opening on Wednesday, 4th February, joined by Police Minister Sir John Pundari and Mr. Adrian Lochrin of the Australian High Commission PNG.

The Mt Hagen barracks are part of Phase 1 of a national RPNGC accommodation program, delivered through the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership (PNG-APP), which aims to build capacity and improve working conditions for officers.

This phase follows last year’s completion of new barracks in Kokopo, East New Britain, and Gordons, Port Moresby, creating a nationwide improvement in police living facilities.

Commissioner Manning said the new housing will have a direct impact on policing efforts, adding, “Better accommodation helps our officers concentrate on law enforcement duties and enhances community safety.”
