With neither side securing maximum points in Round 1 in Auckland, the match began cautiously, producing a disjointed first half with few scoring opportunities.

Tahiti United struck first through Germain Haewegene, who finished well in the 27th minute after Vanuatu United failed to clear their lines.

Vanuatu United hit back eleven minutes later when Owen Smith equalised from the penalty spot after Alex Saniel was fouled in the area, with VAR confirming the decision.

The second half provided greater urgency and attacking intent, with Tahiti captain Teaonui Tehau restoring his side’s lead soon after the restart.

Vanuatu United responded almost immediately, as William Cardona punished a defensive lapse to score his second goal of the season and ensure both teams walked away with a point.
