PNG Customers Urged to Upgrade as BSP Ends Old Card Technology
Bank customers across the country are being urged to replace their old cards after BSP Financial Group Limited announced a firm deadline to retire all magnetic stripe cards.
The banking group is rolling out chip-enabled Kundu cards aimed at strengthening protection against fraud and delivering improved services.

According to BSP Retail General Manager Ronesh Dayal, the upgraded cards offer enhanced security features that will reduce the risk of card duplication while improving customer experience.
He said the transition, which began in August last year, is progressing steadily and will end with the full deactivation of magnetic stripe cards by June 30, 2026.
BSP has also introduced support measures, including dedicated replacement centres at Waigani Central, with Lae and Mt Hagen expected to follow soon.
Customers in remote or other locations can still access replacement services through their nearest BSP branch.
The bank has warned that from April 10, 2026, all inactive magnetic stripe cards — including those unused for more than six months — will be disabled.
Kids Saver account holders will also be affected, with parents advised to update cards ahead of the year-end holiday period when usage typically increases.
“To support customers during this transition, we have established dedicated card replacement centres to facilitate the issuance of new chip-enabled cards at Waigani Central with Lae and Mt Hagen to open Card Centres later this month. Customers outside these locations are able to visit any BSP branch for assistance,” Mr Dayal added.
