PNG Easipay Failure Sparks Public Outcry Nationwide

Papua New Guinea is facing growing frustration as a prolonged Easipay outage continues to disrupt electricity access, prompting government intervention to resolve the crisis affecting PNG Power Limited.

Long queues have formed at payment points while many households remain without power, as the system failure stretches into its third day across several parts of PNG.

State Owned Enterprises Minister William Duma confirmed that the government has instructed the power utility to urgently explore solutions and restore services without delay.

He stressed that authorities are doing everything within their capacity to address the breakdown and rejected allegations that the outage was deliberately caused.

Public dissatisfaction has intensified online, with many users criticising the power supplier’s performance and calling for reforms to improve service reliability.

Despite an announcement suggesting the system had been fixed, customers continued to report failed attempts to purchase electricity tokens.

Information gathered indicates the issue is affecting multiple centres, including Lae, Kokopo and Kavieng, highlighting the widespread nature of the disruption.

PNG Power Limited has maintained that the outage is due to technical difficulties and says engineers are working tirelessly to rectify the problem.
