PNG Power Restores Easipay Services, Shifts Focus to Local Data Security
PNG Power Limited has restored much of its Easipay services across the country, following days of disruption that affected electricity users nationwide in Papua New Guinea.
The utility’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Bayly, said recovery work has progressed steadily since Tuesday, with most systems now operational and remaining sites expected to be reconnected soon.

He said the outage has prompted a strategic shift, with PNG Power now working to transfer control of the Easipay system to a local data centre to improve security and reliability.
“The bulk of the system is operational, and we expect full restoration shortly,” Mr Bayly said.
According to him, managing critical systems offshore posed risks to both service delivery and data protection, making it necessary to bring operations back under national oversight.
He added that hosting the platform within PNG would ensure sensitive customer information remains protected while improving responsiveness and long-term sustainability of the service.
In addition, PNG Power has introduced an online portal to assist customers in lodging claims and tracking service issues, aimed at improving transparency and communication.
“We recognise the disruption this has caused to our customers and sincerely thank the public for their understanding.”
