The group of Australian-based media personalities toured local rugby league structures and were briefed on the blueprint guiding the anticipated entry of the PNG Chiefs into top-level competition in 2028.

Among those in attendance were former NRL players Willie Mason, Justin Horo and James Graham, alongside sports presenters Tom and Eddy, who engaged directly with officials and development staff.

PNG Rugby Football League’s Head of Elite Pathways Joey Grima outlined the Academy system, highlighting its focus on shaping disciplined athletes while also promoting education and respect within communities.

Representatives linked to the PNG Chiefs, including Michael Chammas and Lorna McPherson, shared insights into how the franchise will open new pathways for local talent and strengthen the national competition structure.

PNG Hunters coach Paul Aiton also contributed, connecting the current development programs with future elite-level opportunities.

Grima said the visit was an important step in gaining international recognition for PNG’s rugby league progress.

“Presenting the Academy program to media personalities is vital, it amplifies our vision, builds credibility, and ensures the stories of our players, coaches, and communities are seen, heard, and valued. Strong media engagement turns great work into lasting impact,” he said.
