Launching the program yesterday, Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Sports and Acting Education Minister Hon. Kinoka Hotune Feo said the initiative goes beyond introducing another education program and focuses on investing directly in people.
“Today’s launch is not simply about a new program. It is about investing in people. It is about creating opportunities for our young people. And it is about strengthening the future of Papua New Guinea through quality technical and vocational education and training,” Mr Feo said.
The launch ceremony was held at the Port Moresby Technical College campus and was attended by Australia’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Ewen McDonald.
Mr Feo and Mr McDonald jointly unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the official opening of the Pacific Australia Skills program.
The minister said PNG values Australia’s continued support to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector and noted that the partnership continues to deliver opportunities for skills development across the country.
He said both countries would continue working together to strengthen training pathways and support young Papua New Guineans in gaining practical skills for employment and future growth.
