PNG Job Seekers to Meet Australian Employers at PALM Expo

Hundreds of Papua New Guineans seeking overseas employment opportunities are expected to benefit this week as Australian employers arrive in the country to recruit workers under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.

A total of 23 approved employers from Australia are in Papua New Guinea to attend the PNG PALM Expo, where they will meet local partners and assess recruitment opportunities for PNG workers.

The Expo is aimed at connecting Australian businesses facing labour shortages with Papua New Guineans looking for work opportunities in sectors such as aged care, early childhood education and semi-skilled industries.

The visiting employers will spend several days attending briefings and visiting regional hubs to better understand how workers are selected, trained and prepared before travelling to Australia.

Officials say the PALM scheme continues to expand in Papua New Guinea, creating more pathways for local workers to gain employment overseas while supporting Australian industries needing workers.

Employers will receive updates on the role of the PNG Labour Mobility Unit, including recruitment support, worker screening and pre-departure training arrangements carried out in the country.

Regional visits to Wewak and Kokopo are also part of the program, allowing employers to meet community leaders and see firsthand how workers are prepared at hub level before departure.

The Expo is jointly delivered by the PNG and Australian governments through the PNG-Australia PALM Growth Plan.
