A 32-bed accommodation complex for Divine Word University medical students was officially opened at Angau Memorial Hospital on June 13, providing housing for students undergoing clinical training.

The facility is expected to improve access to practical learning by placing students closer to the hospital while also offering a secure and supportive living environment.

Funding for the project was provided through DHERST’s Capital Investment Program. The development was delivered through collaboration involving DHERST, the Morobe Provincial Health Authority and Divine Word University.

Meanwhile, discussions are underway between DHERST and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS of Malaysia following a meeting held in Port Moresby on June 18.

The talks focused on possible cooperation in several key areas, including student and lecturer exchanges, collaborative research projects and the strengthening of science and technology education.

Another proposal under consideration is the introduction of petroleum and engineering-related programmes at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, which could help develop specialised skills needed by the country’s growing industries.

“DHERST looks forward to further discussions and advancing this promising opportunity for mutual collaboration and capacity building.”
