The company has moved to reassure shareholders, employees and communities that production remains on track, with sufficient food supplies and essential materials already available at the mine site to support ongoing operations.

In a statement, Ok Tedi confirmed that all operational areas remain functional and there has been no impact on output. The company said it is also taking precautionary measures to reduce any potential effects from prolonged dry conditions.

Management is currently assessing alternative transport options for fuel, food and other critical supplies as river levels continue to decline. The Fly River serves as the mine’s primary transport corridor, particularly for barging operations that move supplies and export products.

Ok Tedi Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kedi Ilimbit said contingency plans are already being developed should conditions worsen during a potential El Niño event.

“Alternate routes are currently being reviewed for exporting of copper concentrate and bringing in fuel and other supplies in the event of an El Nino,” Mr Ilimbit said.

“Unlike in the previous dry seasons we didn’t have those routes,” Mr Ilimbit added.
