Digicel PNG Declares Network Ready for 5G Rollout Following Successful Trials
Papua New Guinea has moved a step closer to the next generation of mobile communications after Digicel PNG announced its network has successfully passed end-to-end 5G readiness testing, confirming the system is prepared to support future 5G services.
The telecommunications company said trial results recorded peak speeds of 1.2 gigabits per second while demonstrating the network's ability to provide higher capacity, reduced latency and faster connectivity to meet increasing customer demand.
Digicel PNG said the successful assessment represents another milestone in expanding digital infrastructure and ensuring the country is equipped for future technological developments.
The company noted that 5G technology has the potential to improve everyday digital experiences while supporting new opportunities for commerce, education and innovation.
Interim Chief Executive Officer Brett Goschen said the successful completion of the testing demonstrated that Digicel PNG's network was technically ready to support the latest mobile technology.
He said the readiness trials confirmed customers would benefit from quicker data speeds, greater network responsiveness and improved service reliability once 5G services are introduced.
The company said consumers could expect better-quality video streaming, enhanced online gaming and smoother real-time applications because of the lower latency offered by 5G technology.
It added that businesses would also gain from stronger and more dependable connectivity, creating opportunities for improved efficiency and the development of future digital services across a range of industries.
Digicel PNG said its continued investment in advanced telecommunications technology reinforces its commitment to connecting communities, supporting businesses and contributing to PNG's digital future.
"The successful completion of our 5G readiness testing marks a significant milestone for Digicel PNG and for the country's digital evolution. It confirms that our network is fully prepared to support the latest generation of mobile technology, delivering faster speeds, improved responsiveness and greater reliability for our customers," Mr Goschen said.
