Patients receiving treatment at the East Sepik Provincial Health Authority are expected to benefit from quicker laboratory results after technicians completed training on a newly installed Erba EC90 Electrolyte Analyzer.
The specialised training was provided by City Pharmacy Limited (CPL Group PNG), giving laboratory personnel the practical knowledge required to operate the new system as part of a medical equipment leasing partnership between the two organisations.
The Erba EC90 is designed to analyse essential electrolytes including Sodium, Potassium, Chloride and Ionized Calcium. These laboratory tests are commonly used by doctors to diagnose and monitor conditions involving the kidneys, cardiovascular system and electrolyte imbalance.
The analyser is expected to play an important role in supporting medical teams working in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and other areas caring for critically ill patients.
One of the machine's major advantages is its ability to produce reliable test results within 35 seconds while requiring only a minimal blood sample. The shorter testing time helps medical teams respond more quickly when treating emergency cases.
The leasing arrangement allows ESPHA to use modern laboratory equipment without carrying the cost of repairs or routine maintenance. Those responsibilities remain with CPL, which will also monitor the machine's performance throughout the agreement.
CPL has also committed to maintaining adequate reagent stocks within Papua New Guinea so laboratory services can continue without delays caused by supply shortages.
The arrangement enables ESPHA to expand its diagnostic capabilities while keeping operating costs focused mainly on laboratory consumables.
