PNG Opposition Leader Nomane Grills PM Marape of SEO shuffle
PNG OPPOSITION Leader James Nomane put Prime Minister James Marape on the spot in Parliament yesterday, demanding a clear explanation for the sudden shake-up of the State-Owned Enterprise structure.
During a fiery Question Time, Mr Nomane questioned the wisdom of reassigning PNG Power and commodity boards to different ministers, warning the move could create "conflicts of interest" and dilute accountability.

"The Opposition wants to know what the government hopes to achieve," Mr Nomane declared.
Mr Marape replied with a firm defense, attributing the reshuffle to a four-year review aimed at fixing a broken system. He admitted that placing more than 15 entities under one minister through KCH was causing "slow decisions and poor service delivery."
"KCH remains the owner, but policy oversight is now going to specific ministers to cut the bureaucracy," Mr Marape explained.
He singled out the troubled state of PNG Power as a primary reason for the urgency, adding that the reforms are crucial for improving government performance ahead of the 2027 National Election.
"The old structure had too many layers," Mr Marape said. "These changes are about speeding up decisions and getting results."
