Tonga Run Riot Against Lebanon in 36-0 Rugby League World Cup Win

Tonga produced a commanding performance to defeat Lebanon 36-0 in their Rugby League World Cup Round Two clash at CommBank Stadium in Sydney on Friday, October 23. The Tongan side controlled the contest from start to finish, delivering a strong attacking display while keeping their opponents scoreless throughout the match.

The victory highlighted Tonga’s attacking strength and defensive discipline as they continued their World Cup campaign with an emphatic result. Lebanon struggled to break through Tonga’s defensive line and were unable to register a single point during the 80 minutes of play.

Tonga established their authority early, with Sione Katoa crossing for the opening try in the 12th minute. Paul Alamoti extended the advantage in the 20th minute, giving Tonga a strong platform before Tolutau Koula added another try in the 36th minute. Tonga went into half-time leading 14-0 after converting two of their first three tries.

The second half saw Tonga maintain their momentum, with Jojo Fifita scoring in the 43rd minute before Leka Halasima crossed in the 69th minute. Fifita scored again in the 73rd minute, while Katoa completed his second try of the match in the 79th minute to cap off an impressive team performance.

Tonga’s kicking game also played an important role in the result, with their goal-kickers adding valuable points from successful conversions. Lebanon, meanwhile, could not find a response as Tonga’s defensive organisation restricted their attacking opportunities and prevented them from getting on the scoreboard.

Tonga finished with seven tries and four successful conversions from seven attempts, accounting for all 36 points. Katoa scored twice, while Alamoti, Koula, Fifita (two) and Halasima each contributed a try. Tonga led 14-0 at half-time before adding 22 points after the break. Lebanon finished with zero tries, zero conversions and zero points, giving Tonga a comprehensive 36-0 victory.
