PRIME MINISTER PETER O'NEILL PRESENTS K2m TO KIKORI HIGH SCHOOL, HOSPITAL

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill over the weekend honoured his Government’s commitment by presenting a total of K2 million to the Kikori High School and hospital.

During his first visit to Kikori last year, he made two commitments of one million kina each for the Kikori High School and the District Hospital.

This was his second visit to the district in his capacity as Prime Minister, to open the Rural Bank South Pacific (BSP) Sub-Branch and the POST PNG District Branch.

“Opening these two financial institutions will enable the people of Kikori to have easy access to an opportunity to bank their money and make money transactions immediately,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said.

He said life in the district will become more convenient, as the people of Kikori now need not go to Port Moresby to do their banking, as a result avoiding the increased deaths in treacherous seas on their way to the Nations’ Capital District.

During his speech, Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill reassured the National Government’s integrity by honouring its commitments and presenting K2 million with components of one million kina for the Kikori High School and the other for the Kikori District Hospital.

“The two million kina I am presenting to the Kikori High School and the Hospital is specifically for the development and construction of infrastructure, not for allowances or the purchase of personal items such as vehicles and dinghies,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said.

He announced to the hundreds of locals present that he would make sure he returned to Kikori District to see how these monies were utilized.

He also thanked the Kutubu Petroleum Resource (KPR) – a subsidiary of the Mineral Resources Development Corporation (MRDC), for the initiative of working with the Kikori District and Gulf Provincial Government to establish these necessary avenues of financial and post office systems.

He said this government recognizes Kikori District as a potential hub of the country as it connects the rest of PNG through the newly established Southern Highlands-Kikori Highway and soon be further connected by the proposed Kikori-Kerema Highway, which is currently in its survey phase.
