5th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival ends in style
The 5th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival ended in style at the Port Moresby's Sir Murray Stadium in Port Moresby. PNG Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion and Culture and Tourism Minister Boka Kondra hosted an emotional send off for the remaining Melanesian visitors on Friday night.
There were performances to mark the end of the 14 days event of the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture.
Solomon Islanders put a spectacular performance to show their willingness to host the 6th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture in 2018 and Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu also performed special dances for thousands of PNG people that were present at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Friday.
The day ended with fireworks after Mr Dion gave his remarks in front of ministers, MPs and departmental heads including diplomats and visiting friends.
As of the weekend visitors from Melanesia continued to leave the capital.
Solomon Islanders left on Saturday while yesterday the first batch of the Fijian contingent flew back home with the body of Fiji’s oldest mat weaver, Mara.
It was an emotional affair at the International Departure terminal as many of them held back tears trying to re-tell their 14-days in PNG and the memories of the friendship they encountered.
