AIR NIUGINI WORKERS OPPOSE PARTIAL PRIVATIZATION

The Employees of Air Niugini have joined P-N-G Power workers to oppose privatisation.
The government recently announced its intention to partly privatise 50 - percent of PNG Power and 49-percent of Air Niugini.
The airline employees yesterday, met with their union leaders to publicly express their views on the government's decision.
Many who spoke went against the idea of privatising Air Niugini.
They say government has to come clear on its reasons as to why it wish to sell 49-percent of the company.
The workers say the company over the last few years has been performing very well.
They claim that Air Niugini unlike other State Owned Entities has been performing and also making profit for the state.
Amongst their four points demands, the workers wants the government to immediately set up a commission of enquiry to look into the affairs of Air Niugini.
Its understood, a coalition of Unions, met with the prime minister, Peter ONeill, on Tuesday to discus on the issue.
A formal statement is expected from the government soon regarding the 50 per cent sale of P-N-G Power and 49 per cent of Air Niugini.
