Opposition : Prime Minister Peter O'Neill must allow his arrest
The Opposition has called on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to give himself in to the police after today’s five men Supreme Court bench ruled that the Police Commissioner had no powers to prevent the arrest warrant on the Prime Minister.
The decision today means the warrant is now effective and will be implemented by police without any interference.
The Deputy Opposition leader Sam Basil today called on leaders of parliament to support the call for the PM to hand himself over to the police for questioning.
“For how long will you continue to support this tyrant prime minister, for how long will you continue to allow him to push the laws of this nation and intimidate the agencies of the government that enforces the law,” Mr. Basil said.
He said the next sitting of parliament was coming up and urged the leaders to make sound decisions and change the prime minister.
Mr. Basil said if the police cannot arrest him and if he uses the army to protect him, they had to use parliament to change the leadership of the country.
