PNG Police to arrest Prime Minister Peter O'Neill
Prime Minister O'neill |
Police from the Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate in Port Moresby say they have the powers now to execute the arrest warrant served on the Prime Minister this year after the unanimous ruling from the Supreme Court.
The warrant of arrest was previously stayed in the National Court and the challenge was taken up in the Supreme Court after the Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki prevented the arrest warrant from been implemented until today’s ruling.
National Fraud Director Mathew Damaru said the warrant of arrest on the Prime Minister is now effective but their lawyers are now seeking advice from the National Court to effect the execution of the arrest warrant.
Mr. Damaru says court process on the arrest warrant is not over and will soon be completed and the warrant implemented.
