Saturday 17th of January, marked a sad day for the music and broadcast industry of our country.
The late Justin Kili, better known as JK was a man who wore many hats, as a legendary broadcast announcer and in the media council, both nationally and within the Pacific region.
Late JK passed away at 9AM on Saturday at the Vunapope Hospital after an illness.
The late JK had over 30 years experience in radio broadcasting and at the time of his untimely death, was the Director for Radio East New Britain.
Late Justin Kili also launched the newest of PNGFM’s radio stations and sister station to Nau FM and Yumi FM, Legend FM on the 16th of September, 2011.
But overall, he will be remembered as a mentor and friend – someone who believed in the local music industry and it’s potential.
He will be sadly missed by the industry and nation at large for the icon that he was.
His sudden passing has left a void and many have come forward to express words of condolence to the Kili family in their time of loss.
Alex Rheeney of the Post-Courier said that late JK was a mentor to many within the industry and looked up to by those within the fraternity.
“For those within the media council, the late JK was always available to lend a helping hand and he will be missed.”
That is according to Titi Gabi of PNG loop online news.
“Moreover, his contributions to the media industry of our nation were invaluable. It is a tragedy as he was not only a leader and colleague but a friend to many and has successfully touched many lives in his time.”
These are the sentiments of Mr Peter Aitsi, former president of the PNG media council.
Indeed, the loss of such a music icon is not only that of the Kili family alone, or the music and broadcast industry but a loss to our nation at large.
Rest in peace – late JK.
