PNG SCHOOLS TO START DESPITE RUMOURS OF TEACHERS STRIKE
“The 2015 school academic year will go ahead in the first week of February as scheduled, despite rumours of teachers strike.”
That’s the word from the Education Minister Nick Kuman in a press conference today.
Also present were the Education Secretary Michael Tapo, Dept officials and the Teaching Service Commission Chairman Baran Sori.
“The respective teacher’s who still have outstanding leave fares from the year gone by 2014 will receive what is owed as this is their entitlements.”
“Moreover, the welfare of all our teachers is indeed a priority for the National Government.”
Kuman stated that the leave fares are the responsibility of each provincial education board and such non-payments are a key example of management issues or the lack of it.
“We are looking into the issues of teacher’s leave fares and over time a pattern is emerging.”
“In fact, it seems that the same provinces are experiencing mismanagement issues and these provincial education boards will be dealt with.”
At this time, Mr Kuman has come out to appeal to all teachers to return to their respective teaching provinces and not to allow this to disrupt the school year, for the sake of all students nationwide.
