Juffa refutes Basil on West Papua Issue
Papua New Guinea's Northern Governor, Gary Juffa said, he will continue to openly support West Papuans cries for freedom.
Juffa said this in response to calls by Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil, for West Papuan supporters in Papua New Guinea to be careful, when commenting on and posting graphic images of alleged mistreatment by Indonesian soldiers, as this may cause provocation.
The Governor in an interview with NBC News said, he will not stop speaking out publicly for West Papuan Freedom, because the people have suffered for too long.
The Deputy Opposition Leader has also called on the Papua New Guineasn to pressure their government to take up the West Papuans case through proper process and protocols as this is an international matter.
However, outspoken Governor Garry Juffa refuted Sam Basil saying, nothing substantial was ever achieved by normal process, or by following the right channels, rather it is proven in the history that affirmative action...is what has often secured freedom.
Juffa told Basil and I quote: "Do what you must Sam...but dont stop me from fighting for what is JUST and RIGHT...I cannot ignore the cries of my people of West Papua...perhaps you can...that's your choice"...end of quote.
Garry Juffa is amongst many individual who vigorously supported their Melanesians brothers in West Papua call for freedom.
"The graphic images shown on social media are real, and they need to be shown to the rest of the world. These are images of horrible things that are happening to our Melanesian brothers, the Pacific Islanders just across the boarder. And these things have been happening for the last fifty years or so, and we just cant sweep them under the carpet, we cant hide them, under the guise of mediocrity and claim that nothing is happening there and we should take the usual standard measures in approaching such situation. Thats not how things get done Sam, if you want action, if you want something to be done, if you want to be heard, You need to get out there and be affirmative. An this is what has to be done.....Now we are not saying we are going to war here. We are not going to attack Indonesians, we are going to invade Indonesia, of cause we can not do that, but we are saying that something horrible which has been happening for too long, where more than 500- hundred to 700 hundred thousand people have been killed for over a period of 50 years, and this can not be ignored.,,especially when these people are Melanesian Sam, especially when these people are Pacific Islanders Sam, shame on you for imagining that we should follow the same old due process, and sweep that under the carpet, fold our hands, cross our legs and shut our eyes and block our hears, and not ding anything about this, Are you serious????....We are supposed to be leaders in the Pacific, we meaning PNGeans, we are the largest in the region, we are the largest Melanesian country, right across that 760 kilometers boarder, a terrible atrocity has been carried out ever since 1963..."
