PNG Hunters go down fighting
The Papua New Guinea SP Hunters went down fighting to the East Tigers 14 - 8 in front of a vocal crowd at the Tapout Energy Stadium in Brisbane. This is the Hunters first defeat for this season in the Intrust Super Cup.
The Tigers wasted no time and scored first at the 15th minute into the game through a long pass by Malone who finds an unmarked winger who scores in the corner. An unsuccessful conversion left the score at 4-0. The Hunters replied with a try after halfback Roger Laka put a cross field kick which Thomas Teteh regathered and scored.
The conversion was unsuccessful and the score was locked at 4 all at half time. The Tigers scored a unconverted try again to extend the lead in the second half to 10- 4. PNG gave away a soft penalty to Tigers close to the posts had them kick a successful conversion taking them up to lead 12-4 after 12 minutes into the second half.
Hunters fought hard to score their second try from a perfect grubber by Laka for Ase Boas to score but an unsuccessful conversion kept the score at 12-8.
Tigers were given another penalty with a successful conversion adding two more points to their score to extend their lead to 14 - 8. The Hunters displayed a last minute fight back but time caught up with them and they went down fighting 14 - 8 at full time.
