Beds installed at Pacific Games Village
The Bank South Pacific (BSP) Pacific Games Village is way ahead of time in its preparations for the Games.
Today the Games Gold sponsor Brian Bell Home Centres began installation of over 4000 bed frames into the accommodation blocks.
All installation is expected to be completed over the next two months while the Pacific Foam Industry has over one thousand mattresses ready to go on.
A shipment of over sixteen thousand fitted sheets and bed sheets are expected to arrive on the 18th of May.
“This is an important milestone for us as we continue to make progress in our preparations towards July,” said Games Organising Committee’s CEO, Peter Stewart.
“This is a venue that is crucial to the success of these Games. We want to provide the best possible accommodation for visiting athletes in the two weeks of competition and its readiness at this stage gives us more than enough time to cater to all their accommodation needs”.
The Games Village will house over 4000 athletes and officials complete with its own dining hall that will cater and serve meals to visiting teams.
“In order for athletes to perform at their best, they must be able to rest well” said Mr Stewart.
The Facility is designed to be a home away from home for the athletes of the Pacific with recreational facilities and various forms of entertainment available for the residents.
It is expected to be ready by the 15th of June, before it starts housing its first visiting athletes on the 30th of June.
The venue will be handed over to the University of Papua New Guinea as student accommodation after the Games.
