SP Brewery - Don’t drink like a fool
Papua New Guineans who like to drink and socialise should keep their cool, don’t drink like a fool, drink responsibly.
This was the simple message launched yesterday by SP Brewery as part of its drink responsibly campaign to educate consumers about responsible drinking to combat the social effects of inappropriate or harmful drinking.
The campaign targets the responsibilities people have to their families and friends.
SP Brewery’s managing director Stan Joyce said the brewery was part of a bigger campaign and globally Heineken aligned itself strongly with the responsible consumption of alcohol.
"The campaign needed to increase awareness of responsible drinking consumption through an emotional connection.
"It is far better to deal with the problem on a long term basis through strong corporate and community partnerships," Mr Joyce said.
He said banning of alcohol is a short-term Band Aid solution and only drives the problem underground and creates a black market.
SP Brewery was also committed to developing innovative drink responsibly campaigns and enlisting the support of retailers to reduce harmful and underage drinking.
Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko officially launched the campaign witnessed by the National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Health Secretary Pascoe Kase.
Governor Parkop said NCDC was ready to be part of the campaign and would regulate sale and consumption of alcohol.
He urged city resident to support, stand up and continue to drive this important message together.
