Scouts get new hall

The Boy Scouts now have a brand new hall with a conducive environment to learn practical life skills, good values and ethics thanks to the generosity of Bank of South Pacific (BSP).BSP saw the need for a new Scout Hall and lent a helping hand, as the previous one, built during the 1960's was literally in a bad state.

While the project is bank funded, staff actually volunteered their own time to help paint walls, dig up clogged drains, cut down overgrown shrubs, make new flower beds and clean up around the yard.

The project's technical aspects was undertaken by a building contractor.

The Scout Hall at Konedobu is where The Scout Association of Papua New Guinea is headquartered.

In a ceremony today, the bank's Deputy General Manager - Retail Banking, Nuni Kulu, handed over the hall to Chairman of the National Scout Executive Committee Daniel Lingnoge.

Ms Kulu made the presentation on behalf of the project team consisting the Retail, Paramount, Treasury Business Units, bank subsidiary BSP Capital and the Harbor City branch.

Ms Kulu was confident the hall will be fully utilised and contribute meaningfully to the scout movement.

Mr Lingnoge expressed gratitude and applauded BSP for a job well done. "The hall is a venue where scouts congregate and learn to be constructive and proactive members of our society. This contribution will surely encourage more boys to sign up," he said.

The initiative to rebuild the hall is part of the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility where BSP's Head Office Business Units and Branches around PNG deliver worthy projects in health, education, environment or sports in communities it operates.
