Court stops eviction of UPNG studdents
The National Court this afternoon granted an interim stay order on the decision of the UPNG council and stayed the decision of the same Council this week to have the students evicted within 48hrs which lapsed this afternoon after 4 weeks of continuous boycotting of classes by students.
The decision by the court means students will remain on campus until the matter is further argued in court come next Wednesday.
The court however refused to grant another application to remove police presence on campus stating that while there was no evidence of violence by students, the court couldn’t stop the police from doing their duty in maintaining law and order.
The case returns to court on Wednesday.
