Two police Officers shot dead in Election related clash in Wabag

Papua New Guinea  Police Commissioner Gari Baki  has confirmed deaths of two police officers in Wabag. Commissioner said two officers from the Hagen based MS 6, have died of injuries they sustained whilst on duty in Wabag.

It is understood, the MS members were shot during a gun fight between supporters of Sitting Kandep MP, Don Polye and candidate Alfred Manase.

Commissioner Baki said details of the shootings are sketchy and as of 5pm, he was waiting for an update from Superintendent Mark Yangen based in Wabag for the election operations.
Meanwhile, bodies of the officers have been airlifted to Port Moresby.

Baki has also has urged members of the public to exercise caution when posting on Facebook. He said unconfirmed reports posted earlier were also impacting on security operations in Wabag.
Commissioner Baki will be traveling to Wabag tomorrow to meet with local commanders and troops. EMTV/PNG Today
