PNG Government agencies put on notice
Key Papua New Guinea government departments and State enterprises have been put on notice that they will be required to provide reports on what has been done so far by the O’Neill government in the next couple of days.
In particular Police, PNG Defence Force, Department of Works, Department of Finance, Treasury, MRDC, and Kumul Petroleum were names put forward by the alternate government.
“We are putting them on notice that only 10 days away, this new government will get in and won’t play up. The specific message to the Police, PNG Defence Force, Department of Works, Department of Finance, Treasury, MRDC, (and) Kumul Petroleum, we will come after your books, and if you are implicated, you will know where you will end up,” said opposition leader Patrick Pruaitch.
“We are ready as a team to take the country forward and to demonstrate this we need to remind state agencies that the new government is in the making and in the next few days we will be asking them to come forward to brief the alternative government on the state of economy and major issues needing practical solutions in moving forward.
“We are ready as a team to take the country forward and to demonstrate our seriousness in dealing with major issues in the country which we have taken some housekeeping measures to ensure we stand ready to take on the challenge.
“One of the examples is to close the gates at 12pm because there are sufficient numbers to form government.
“As a result, two of our colleagues were asked to return to their houses to wait for us to contact them in the near future, we believe that with 63 we need to structure the new government and ensure every party and segment of alternative government interests are captured and that is the reason why we have to get our house in order.”
“Given the timing of when we put this into play, we should be able to address the interests of our country. “We stand ready to respond, resolve and reverse negative trends that have taken place in the government, and stand ready to ensure negative indicators of economy are addressed.
“And review decisions taken by the government.
“And we will not hesitate to put a stop in some of the arrangements that are not in the best interest of our country, we will review, and if they are not a priority of the new government, we will postpone those programmes.
“We need to bring back some steadiness to the economy and with the experience of the team behind us the country is provided with the new opportunity to progress forward.
“I can assure every citizen, we mean well to put the government together,” Pruaitch said.
