PNG Electoral Commision urged to give clear instructions
By Samuel Raitano / FM100
Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato has been urged to give appropriate instructions to electoral officers based on election laws.
This call was made by several concerned people from the Ialibu Pangia electorate, Southern Highlands Province.
Steven Sewe, an intending candidate in the LLG election, says assistant Returning Officers must not follow instructions from politicians or sitting LLG Presidents.
He made this call after learning that the ARO for Kuare LLG wanted to move the counting and declaration of the LLG President to Kagua station.
Sewe says Kagua LLG is not safe as there is an ongoing tribal conflict in the Sugu Valley where 9 council wards are affected.
Diri Kapolo, a teacher at Kuare High School also calls on Gamato to instruct SHP election manager to see that peaceful LLGs conduct polling and election of LLG Presidents at their respective council chambers.
Kapolo says the people of Kuare LLG are peace loving and there is no imminent risk to any one including electoral commission officials.
