Newcrest Supports PNG Kumuls Test Match against Great Britain Lions
By Press Release
Newcrest is proud to announce its continued support for sport in Papua New Guinea, with the signing of naming rights sponsorship for the upcoming tour of the Great Britain League Lions to PNG next month.
For the first time in 13 years the Lions will tour the Southern Hemisphere, with a highly anticipated match against the PNG Kumuls to be held in Port Moresby on Saturday 16 November.
The second match of the double header on the day will be the PNG Orchids versus the English Women’s Rugby League Team.
This announcement was made last night, at an event to mark the visit of the Newcrest Board to Papua New Guinea.
In attendance at the event were, GM Southern Hemisphere of the IRLF Jeremy Andrews, Chairman of the PNGRFL Mr Sandis Tsaka and Newcrest Chief Operating Officer PNG Mr Craig Jones.
Craig Jones highlighted Newcrest’s ongoing commitment to sport in PNG, emphasizing the importance of women’s sport on the national stage.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to sponsor such a prestigious event which will showcase the skills of both the Kumuls and the Orchids to a worldwide audience. It will be a chance to show the world not only how good the PNG women and men players are, but how they play the game – in a respectful and professional way”.
Newcrest’s Lihir Operations focus on safety and respect in the workplace and in the wider community through its ‘Trupla Man, Trupla Meri’ initiative which empowers its workforce to challenge anti- social and violent behaviour. Craig Jones believes that sport is an excellent way of spreading those positive messages to the wider community, “rugby league players are the leaders in sport but also in their homes and workplaces.
They have a responsibility to carry these messages through their professional and personal lives and Newcrest is proud to be associated with such elite sportsmen and women.”
Newcrest looks forward to supporting the PNG national rugby league teams on the world stage and welcoming international teams to the shores of PNG for years to come, in partnership with PNGRFL and the Rugby League International Federation.
