Marape Govt confirms appointment of Manning as new PNG police Commissioner
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has officially signed off a National Executive Council decision, to appoint David Manning as the country's 19th Police Commissioner.
Police Minister Bryan Kramer when contacted by NBC News after sighting a Facebook post on his wall this afternoon, confirmed the appointment.
Minister Kramer said that he was summoned with Mr. Manning to the Prime Minister Office, to formally congratulate Mr. Manning on his appointment as the new Commissioner.
Commissioner Manning is the second Police Commissioner from the East New Britain Province, after William Taiden who served as the country's second Police Commissioner from 1977 to 1979.
Manning joined the Force in 1997 as an officer cadet at Bomana Police College.
The country's first Police Commissioner was Pois Kerepia from Bougainville, who was appointed in February 1976.
The full details of the appointment will be announced tomorrow.
