Coronavirus Alert issued at all ports of Entry in Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea Minister Westly Nukundj has assured the nation that PNG Immigration and Border Security Authority will keep tight surveillance at ALL port of entries across the country.

This is to monitor travelers who are entering the country particularly from China and other Asian countries.

Minister Wesley Nukundj in a statement said he is also making a formal appeal to all government agencies operating on all borders to be very strict on the movement of people.

Nukundj said these following widespread International media reports about Coronavirus which claims many lives in China and is spreading to other parts of the world.

Minister Nukundj said all government agencies that safeguard our borders including Foreign Affairs and International Trade, National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority, and PNG Customs must impose strict measures at all our ports.

He said all international passengers including those PNG Citizens traveling to PNG must be imposed with Vaccination Certificates.

Nukundi said after receiving an official report from the Department of Health and the World Health Organisation several measures will be taken on an interim basis.

These will include temporary suspension of online e-visa for short term “Easy Visitor Permit “for all Chinese and for those intending visitors to apply through the PNG Embassy in Beijing.

NAQIA will also be informed to impose Temperature Monitoring Detectors at the airport to manage and detect international passengers on arrival with very high fever for processing.

The land border post at Wutung, Sandaun Province must be temporarily closed to prevent travelers from Jayapura, Indonesia from entering the country through the post.
