PNG PM Marape among Witnesses summoned to Controversial UBS Loan Inquiry

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape and seven other leaders and academics will be summoned to appear before the Commission of Inquiry into the UBS loan next month.

The others are New Ireland Governor, Sir Julius Chan, Sir Rabbie Namaliu, Western Highlands Governor, Paias Wingti, former diplomat, Sir Charles Lepani, and academics Dr Osborne Sanida, Dr Lawrence Sausse and Professor Leslie Pillai.

They were among 13 witnesses who were asked to appear today but did not show nor responded to their letter of invitation to appear.

Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was the only witness present when the inquiry sat today.

He will give evidence on April 6th.

Member for Moresby North West, Sir Mekere Morauta, Central  Bank Governor, Loi Bakani, and international academic  Professor Tim Besley had advised of their unavailability while Peter O’Neill was only served his papers last Friday.

Chairman Chief Sir Salamo Injia says they will also be asked to appear on February 28th, along with the eight summoned witnesses.
