Port Moresby Confirms first Measles Case

The National Capital District has confirmed a measles case at the Port Moresby General hospital yesterday, (Sunday 5th January 2020).

Executive Manager Public Health Division Doctor Daoni Esorom confirmed this, adding that full details of the case will be released tomorrow, (Tuesday 7th January 2020).

This brings the total number of measles cases in the country to three.

"We are encouraging all parents to bring their children in for vaccination, it's not hard.

"You don't have to wait for an outbreak and you act," said Dr. Esorom.

Meantime, Health Secretary Pascoe Kase is encouraging parents to have their children vaccinated at public hospitals, where it's free of charge.

He said this is to ensure all children are being protected against measles.
