PNG Coronavirus Updates by Prime Minister James Marape

Statement by Prime Minister James Marape

My fellow PNGeans and friends of PNG,

All around the world countries ( 207 countries have infected person ) are adjusting to life with corona virus. Adjustments that will affect your social life, your family life and your professional life.

I ask our citizens and residents that cooperation and following of lawful instructions will assist our fight against diseases and other challenges our country is faced with.

Whilst our God is there and has been protecting us, we too must do our part to protect ourself. I want to assure all, your government will do everything possible to fight Corona, that includes;

-Mobilizing medical personals and other helping hands;

-Insuring life’s of all medical, police and soldiers in this fight;

-Resourcing PHAs ( Provincial and District health facilities;

-Defending international borders stopping C19;

-Stopping C19 spreading in country;

-Readjusting to a National life with C19; and

- Every other activities we will do to secure our country from this treat.

Whilst the government will attend to the above and plus more as we adjust to this crisis, I beg our citizens and residents for your cooperations.

YOU TOO CAN ASSIST WHERE YOU ARE. YOU NOT IMUNE FROM THE VIRUS.

The major way you can help is to stop moving around, moving from house to house or village to village or suburb to suburb, or town to town , or province to province or country to country.

People stop moving and corona will stop moving. Since 1975, we have not been building good health care systems with enough beds and doctors.

We now have under 5000 total beds in our present hospitals and health centers, we have under 700 doctors and 5000 nurses and community health workers. This is not sufficient if we recklessly allow the virus to spread.

By WHO modeling one C19 positive person can infect 3 and in that rate of infection if one active person runs free in country for 14 days and his contacts run free, you can have over 4,782,969 positive cases all in a 14 day period of uncontrolled movement.

That is why at the national level our initial 14 days of SOE induced isolation was invoked. As we were coming out of the 14 days, we returned a positive test from our pool of ‘person of interest’.

We are now deploying localized strategies to ensure our sister is restored to full health and her contacts all are tested plus locking down ENBP.

We appealing to all for cooperations and love and care firstly to any person of interest who we deal with including our present positive sister. She is not a treat to anyone and she is being attended to as I write.

She is healthy as I write and I thank her for her cooperation, her family for support and Governor ENBP and public servants/medical workers and people of ENBP.

Secondly and importantly to our people please STOP MOVING AROUND. That will help yourself and our country.

Our help to each other will help our country fight corona.

Thus on this occasion and going forward our inner character to be lawful, obedient, respectful, loving and caring must be deployed to ensure we rise above C19.

We are a Melanesian Christian country and those virtues are intrinsic in our DNA, I appeal for us to support each other in this trying time.

The world is running out of medical kits and medical supplies, every country is looking after her citizens before helping other nations.

We have to help ourself now. Government commits to rise in its effort to fight corona but you can help by staying localized where you are and if anyone shows signs and symptoms of C19 then call us and we will get to you or that person.

God of PNG will look after us as He has been thus far but we too must look after PNG.

God bless PNG.

PMJM
