Grandfather arrested for Sexually abusing granddaughters
A 77 year old man from Manus province, was arrested for sexually abusing his 8 year old granddaughter and her younger sister.
Manus Provincial Police Commander David Yapu told PNGFM that the matter surfaced on the 16th of May when the 8 year old girl complained of experiencing pains in her genital area.
“Not only was she the victim, but she also mentioned the name of her small sister.”
PPC Yapu added that the matter was kept on a low profile for a long time.
“In that time the suspect was inducing them by giving them money and lollies to keep their mouths shut.”
The victims’ parents then reported the matter to the police in Manus where they (both victims) gave in their statements and the police then arrested the suspect.
PPC Yapu then added, “When they arrested him, he readily admitted doing those things to those two victims.”
“This is something that I have advised parents and relatives, in future not to allow their daughters to stay with their grandfather or uncles or relatives because a similar thing can happen to them."
“Also I appeal to the community going through local media, talking to them, that this should not happen and parents must take custody of their children, especially girls.”
He further said, “If they neglect their children, a similar thing can happen to them.”
Meanwhile, the accused has already appeared in court and he has been remanded in custody, awaiting police to prepare court files to serve unto him afterwhich will then appear in court again.
