Yoga Walk for Life Improving Port Moresby City Residents' Health Status

By Kingsford Noah Yakapun, 3rd Year Pharmacist Student at UPNG Medicine School

Non-communicable diseases (Lifestyle diseases) are prevailing cause of high morality rates in Papua New Guinea. Obesity is a concern in modern PNG due to unhealthy lifestyles and poor dietary choices. You can still recall a family member, relative, or a tribesman who passed away with lifestyle diseases related complications like hypertension (high blood pressure), myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, or diabetes.

Most hospitalized cases of patients are patients suffering from lifestyle diseases. The risk of developing lifestyle diseases can be minimized by regulating a personal health habit; daily exercise, eating balanced diet and having enough sleep hours. If you are overweight (or obese), you are at the risk of developing these disorders. You are adviced to cut down on diet. Stop soft drinks (extra sugar, sodium), and extra snacks. Do regular exercise.

I don't intend to talk about funding misuse allegations or whatsoever. In a busy city like Port Moresby, you may hardly find time and commit yourself to regular exercises for your personal health benefit.

You can join Walk and Yoga for Life, which is a great initiative by the visionary governor of NCD Hon. Powes Parkop.

I have personally seen healthy outcomes for diabetic and hypertensive patients who have improved health with Walk and Yoga for Life programme.

Keeping healthy city residents is a extraordinary initiative by a visionary leader.

Your health is your wealth. Enjoy life with high self m-esteem with healthy body.
