PNG Fashion Designer Sete sues Asian owned Company for alleged Copyright Infringement

Papua New GUINEA Fashion designer and owner of Maku Gifts and the Lavagirl brand, Ms Annette Sete has filed a lawsuit in Kokopo National Court against another Asian owned retail shop for alleged copyright infringements on her famous tabu design on fabrics.

The company, Kenny PNG Ltd, is named as the second defendant.

Owner and company director Kenny Beng NG is named as the first defendant, and fellow company director, and founder of PNG Fashion and Design Week, Janet Sios, is named as the third defendant.

Kenny Beng NG is a Malaysian operating a joint of retail shops across Lae City including the fabric and clothing shop, Kenny Collection.

The defendants are being represented by Niugini Lawyers, while Waisi Lawyers act for Ms Sete.

Acting Justice Elizabeth Suelip has fixed the matter for Directions Hearing on 11 August, 2020.

The lawsuit again Kenny PNG Ltd is the second for Ms Sete following the first copyright infringement lawsuit pursuit against the retail giant, Tropicana Ltd and its owner Dame Sandra Lau.

The lawsuit also relates to the alleged copying tabu fabric designs. The matter is also fixed for Directions Hearing on 11 August 2020.
