Australian Medical Team arrives to assist PNG COVID-19 Response

Three members of the Australian Medical Assistance Team, AUSMAT, have arrived in the country yesterday.

The AUSMAT team will begin their important work supporting the PNG Government’s COVID-19 response immediately after their quarantine.

The other four team members are scheduled to arrive by 11th of August, 2020.

“We’re very keen to help, just as Papua New Guinea and Australia always try and help each other in difficult times.

''At the beginning of the year, Papua New Guinea helped Australia by providing assistance during our bushfires, and now we’re helping with the coronavirus,” said Australian High Commissioner Jon Philp.

The team of 7 medical specialists, including emergency care clinicians, are part of Australia’s response to PNG’s call for international assistance through the World Health Organisation.

Australia is offering the AUSMAT team to PNG at no cost to the PNG Government, as part of Australia's support to PNG's COVID-19 response.
