Man Charged for Murder of Businessman and Escaping Custody apprehended

A prison escapee was recaptured today in a joint special operation involving plain-clothed detectives and members of a Fox Unit at Hohola in the National Capital District.

The fugitive Alexander Genia 31 of Abau, Rigo in the Central Province was previously arrested and charged for the murder of businessman Jeffrey Bull in August last year.

According to NCD/Central Commander Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Junior , who was aware and sanctioned the mini Operation , said the accused was taken to the Waigani National Court House by Correctional Services for Court appearance when he somehow escaped from custody. This is also subject to investigations.

He was on the run until his recapture today.

ACP Wagambie said police acted upon intelligence where the CID led operation led to the recapture.

ACP Wagambie who was personally at the CID Homicide office to see the escapee brought in, commended members of this team for accomplishing their mission.

ACP Wagambie said the prisoner was detained at the Boroko cell, processed and eventually taken back to the Bomana jail today.
