SP PNG Hunters coach Matthew Church said he welcomed the decision and will include Boas in the squad immediately.

“I have been in contact with the club for the past couple of months and am really pleased to announce that Watson has been allowed to join the SP Hunters,” Church said. “The decision means he has been given the green light by Rugby Football League in UK to register with the Hunters in the QRL which suits all parties.”

He said Watson will be with the Hunters until April. “This will allow him to keep his fitness levels high in anticipation for the Dons’ season getting underway in May and travel restrictions are lifted,” Church said.

Doncaster Chief executive Carl Hall said: “We felt it was in Watson’s best interests to get some rugby league under his belt while it is available to him prior to his return to the Dons.”

“It allows him to train and play hard and get himself ready for our season starting in May, and we look forward to welcoming him back into our group.”

Hall thanked the SP Hunters management and in particular coach Matt Church who have kept in regular contact with in the past couple of months.

“The relationship between the two clubs is a very strong one which can only be a positive for us all,” Hall said.
