PNG Education Secretary Kombra Cracks Whip on School Principals

The Education Department is now taking a tough stance on schools that are defying lawful directives regarding school fees.

Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra said they have received several reports from parents complaining about schools sending home students and charging fees this year.

Koairi Park Adventist School principal suspended 

This week, Dr. Kombra said the department is actioning those complaints and have started suspending and charging school principals that are defying orders and charging fees on students.

Two secondary school principals in Central Province were the first to be suspended this year for defying lawful orders.

The principals of Koari Park and Mt Diamond Secondary schools were suspended.

Following this, Dr. Kombra said the department will carry out thorough investigations on other schools being reported.

He said if there is real evidence of defiance of schools charging high fees or schools refusing to enroll a student will be suspended and summoned to explain to the disciplinary committee.
